Is awesomeness even a word? Well, it needs to be because that is totally how I feel about the clothes that Mountain Mama Maternity sent me. It’s not very often that I feel like I really NEED something (usually just want it) but with this pregnancy, clothes have been a serious issue. I mean, after weeks of trying to stretch my shirts over my belly or wear Andrews hoodies, just to avoid maternity clothes that make me feel like a whale, I realize that there’s got to be something more than this.
Luckily, Mountain Mama, was launched a few years ago and came to my rescue by sending me some fantastic clothes to try, which magnificently solved my problem. Clothes that were technical, warm, good looking, and most of all, meant to fit me. Their site puts it beautifully…
“MOUNTAIN MAMA exists for a simple reason. Women who like to play outdoors should have stylish, functional clothing at all stages of life – including pregnancy.
Our mission is to combine innovative technical fabrics and design to create stylish clothing that women can wear comfortably on the trail and in town, through every stage of pregnancy … and beyond!”
Here’s a little more about the pieces that they sent me:
The first thing that they sent me was the Clouds Rest Baselayer bottom. My initial reaction was “suspenders…there’s no way I’ll ever wear these”, but those removable suspenders quickly became my favorite part of the pants. It seems like a week after receiving the pants from them, all of a sudden, nothing fit me anymore. That dreaded day in pregnancy where nothing will stay where it should and you just want to stay in your PJ’s all day and cry
(please tell me someone else has felt like this…). Luckily, these pants saved me. They quickly turned from being baselayers to leggings, because you can get away with wearing leggings all the time…baselayers, not so much. As soon as I changed their name around here, I was wearing these pants about 3 times a week, and always with the suspenders on (although I would usually keep them hidden under another shirt or cardigan). They are fantastic. I wear them to do everything from skiing, running, hiking, and grocery shopping – they do it all and make me feel good at the same time! Not only are they comfortable, but they are super warm (as opposed to these ones). My legs tend to get pretty cold and I never had a single problem with these. In fact, I often double up on the bottom in cold weather, but I never needed to with these pants on. Next time, I would probably order one size bigger so the fit would be a little loser, but I did a quick little sewing trick with the elastic and these have been fantastic. Honestly, these are my favorite pants and have become the staple in my pregnancy wardrobe. My only disappointment with them is that now that the weather is getting warmer, I can’t wear them much without overheating – darn it (yes, I’m wishing for some spring snow right now…).
The other piece that they sent me was the Clouds Rest Baselayer Crossfront Top. This top has most of the awesome qualities of the bottoms I just mentioned. It is made of the same fabric, is soft and comfortable and really warm. The warmth is amazing, because no one wants to wear extra layers when pregnant, and this top eliminates that! Probably my favorite part of it is that the arms are really long, thanks to the thumb loops, so it provides plenty of arm coverage (a major issue I’ve had with other maternity clothes). Also, it’s totally versatile. I can wear it out sledding with the kids and then dress it up a little with a scarf to wear to out with Andrew that night. My only wish is that it were a little longer. While it is still longer than many of my shirts, since I have a long torso, as my belly grows bigger I tend to want more coverage. That being said, I still totally love it and wear it a few times a week. (Yes, I honestly do wear it that much…I just have to strategically wipe off all the food I spill on my stomach so no one knows…good thing it’s black 🙂 )
Okay, I’ll stop gushing now. Oh, no I won’t! If you’re pregnant, DO NOT WAIT! Go get some Mountain Mama clothes as fast as you can. I’m sure that you’ll love them as much as I do, and they will give you the confidence and ability to continue your adventures, even as your belly expands. Oh, and don’t worry, I promise never to become a model!
Mountain Mama did send me these pieces to review, but as always, all opinions are my own and are not influenced by others.
