Buying gear for and active family is an incredibly daunting task.  It feels like everyone needs so much gear for every activity that it can be really overwhelming, not to mention expensive.  Got multiple kids?  I feel your pain.  We’ve got 4 with #5 on the way so I truly know how quick those gear purchases can add up.

Well, with the holidays right around the corner, we’ve got several new reviews up right now for some pieces of gear that would make a perfect holiday gift.  Each of these items can be used year round, so even though they cost a little more, you really do get a whole lot of bang for your buck (not to mention they are all amazing quality.

So, here’s what we’ve got, and want to recommend to all of you.  Below you’ll find a short description along with a link to our full review.

Hydro Flask 64oz Insulated Growler $59.95

If you’re ready to enter the 21st century and stop always drinking lukewarm beverages, this bottle is for you.  It’s gargantuan, at 64 oz, so can hold icewater or cocoa for the whole family…if you are willing to share!

We love it so much that it’s now on our list of “must take” items for our frequent beach trips (or anytime we’re out for more than a couple hours).

If this bottle can keep ice in my water for an entire day through the heat of the Arabian summer, I’m convinced it can do just about anything.

Merino Wool T-Shirts by Chasing Windmills $38

With 4 kids, spending a lot of money on clothes just isn’t happening around our house.  However, everyone has a few pieces of really nice clothing that I can always count on to perform.  Most of them are made of merino wool.  It’s perfect for adventuring, traveling, and depending on the weight can keep you really cool or really warm.  It does it all.

My latest merino obsession is with Chasing Windmill Kids and their gorgeous line of young kids merino wool clothing and accessories.  My youngest two boys practically lived in these shirts when we were in Sri Lanka and the Maldives recently because they clean easily and dry super fast!

Burley Encore Bike Trailer and Jogger $479

Want an amazing bike trailer at a decent price?  Look no further than the Burley Encore.  After 9 years with a bike trailer that we bought at Target, we upgraded to the Burley Encore and it’s fantastic.  It’s comfortable for the kids (seats two), tows easily, and can be used with a stroller, jogger, and even a ski attachment.

Burley goes all out and designed this trailer not just for the parents towing/pushing it, but especially for the kids who ride in it.  My 2 and 4-year-old used to fight over space in our old trailer because, even though it’s roughly the same size, they would always slide around or their seat would be uncomfortable.  Now my 2-year-old begs me almost daily to take him for a ride.  It’s amazing.
